We Can Get to Know God!!!

The words, “Prepare in me a clean heart,” came to my mind as I asked the Lord what I should read or study today.

When I searched for these words, here is the scripture that I found.

Psalm 51:10 (KJV)  Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

This is how the New King James Version introduces chapter 51.

Psalm 51 (NKJV)

To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David when Nathan the prophet went to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.

 1 Have mercy upon me, O God,
         According to Your lovingkindness;
         According to the multitude of Your tender mercies,
         Blot out my transgressions.

 2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
         And cleanse me from my sin.

 3 For I acknowledge my transgressions,
         And my sin is always before me.

 4 Against You, You only, have I sinned,
         And done this evil in Your sight—
         That You may be found just when You speak,
         And blameless when You judge.

 5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
         And in sin my mother conceived me.

 6 Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts,
         And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.

 7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
         Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

 8 Make me hear joy and gladness,
         That the bones You have broken may rejoice.

 9 Hide Your face from my sins,
         And blot out all my iniquities.

 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
         And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

 11 Do not cast me away from Your presence,
         And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

 12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
         And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.

 13 Then I will teach transgressors Your ways,
         And sinners shall be converted to You.

 14 Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God,
         The God of my salvation,
         And my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness.

 15 O Lord, open my lips,
         And my mouth shall show forth Your praise.

 16 For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it;
         You do not delight in burnt offering.

 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,
         A broken and a contrite heart—
         These, O God, You will not despise.

 18 Do good in Your good pleasure to Zion;
         Build the walls of Jerusalem.

 19 Then You shall be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness,
         With burnt offering and whole burnt offering;
         Then they shall offer bulls on Your altar.

I am somewhat mystified at how well David knew God and understood God’s heart toward men!!!

And then again, why should I be mystified that David knew God so well?  Seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened.  Aren’t these very words written in the scriptures??

Matthew 7:7-11 (KJV)

 7Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

 8For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

 9Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?

 10Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?

 11If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

God lets us know in HIS WORD, even in the words above, that if we seek HIM, we shall find HIM!!!

We can go as far in God as we want.  We can learn as much and get to know as much about HIM as we want.

There are examples ALL over the Bible of the men that walked with God and knew HIM intimately.

We can read in Ex 33:9-11 how God talked to Moses face to face, but we find that God was in the midst of the cloudy pillar and that Moses could NOT actually see HIM.

Ex. 33:11 And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend.

In verse 18-23, we read that Moses asks to see God’s glory.  God explains to Moses that he cannot see HIS face and live, but that he can see God’s back as God walks by HIM.  And God covers Moses with HIS HAND and as HE passes by HE allows Moses to see HIS back.

And look at Enoch.  Genesis 5:24 (AMP) 24And Enoch walked [in habitual fellowship] with God; and he was not, for God took him [home with Him].

So, why would David, a man after God’s own heart be any different?  As we read what David says to The Lord in verse 10-12, we find that David is repenting to the Lord and he is asking The Lord to be merciful.

But even more important than that, David is asking The Lord to help him be right in his heart and get his mind straight.  David is seeking The Lord for help in order to keep his mind and heart focused on GOD!!!

Psalm 51
(NKJV)

 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
         And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

 11 Do not cast me away from Your presence,
         And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

 12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
         And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.

David recognizes that God will NOT accept a sacrifice as penance (a sign of his sorrow for the sin he committed.)  For God ONLY accepts a repentant and truly sorrowful heart!!!

Psalm 51 (NKJV)

 16 For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it;
         You do not delight in burnt offering.

 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,
         A broken and a contrite heart—
         These, O God, You will not despise.

Just like David, and Enoch, and Moses, if we want to know God, we can!!!

WE CAN GET TO KNOW GOD!!!

WE WILL FIND GOD, IF WE SEEK HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Isaiah 55:6 (AMP)

6Seek, inquire for, and require the Lord while He may be found [claiming Him by necessity and by right]; call upon Him while He is near.
