One Thought, One Glance, One Word!!!

When I was searching for the words to “O Be Careful Little Eyes,” I found this song and I think that it is quite obviously supposed to a more adult sounding version. 

The words to this song do indeed carry a very important warning!!!  Sin is like a creeping vine and ALL it takes is ONE THOUGHT, ONE GLANCE, OR MAYBE ONE WORD to cause it to put down roots and grow!!!

For instance, a man or a woman might be lonely.  And along comes a pretty lady or a handsome man.  One conversation can lead to one suggestion, and if NOT rejected immediately, that one thought can flourish and result in a bad choice that can spiral out of control!!! 

You see once a tiny, tiny thought is allowed to take root, it begins to grow!!!  First, that thought becomes maybe just something that is being dwelt on or considered a little too much!!!  But as that person dwells on it, they are tempted. 

While a person may have only intended to keep it in the back of his or her mind, as something they would never, ever do, it begins to seem exciting or even dangerous to think about it, so they keep thinking about it!!! 

This is when the thought goes from something that they would and should never do, to something that they secretly relish and even wish they could do, if only once!!!  And before they realize it, that thought has taken root!! 

Instead of getting rid of that thought immediately and then pleading the blood over their mind, they allowed it to stay, and develop and grow!!! 

In Phil 4:8, the Bible tells us how we should think. 


Philippians 4:8 (CEV) Finally, my friends, keep your minds on whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper. Don't ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise.

 

 

And when that little tiny thought has grown roots, it isn’t just in the back of their mind any more.  They find themselves pulling that thought out more and more.  And they begin to think, and even hear a tiny voice saying, “It couldn’t hurt to do it just once!!!” 

THAT TINY VOICE IS THE VOICE OF THE DEVIL!!!  And of course, he wants us to think that sinning only once will NOT hurt us or anyone else!!!  That tiny voice will seduce you into sinning!!!

So, before a person knows it, they are planning on how they are going to do “IT” just once and get away with it!!!  And then of course, they will go back to their plain old lives and NEVER, EVER, do IT again!!!

BUT IT JUST DOESN’T WORK THAT WAY!!!  And folks, it doesn’t have to be sex!!!  It can be gambling, shop lifting, drinking, smoking, going out with the girls, or the boys, even a little kiss.  It can simply be looking at pornography with your spouse or getting a tiny, tiny tattoo where no one can see it except GOD!!! 

While a few of these things are NOT actually wrong, they can lead you into doing something wrong!!!  The very thing that you think you CAN HANDLE, WILL HANDLE YOU!!!

There is one very simple way to look at it!!  If the very thought of doing something is exciting because it is forbidden, then it is wrong for you to do it!!!  If whatever it is, floats your boat or ticks your tock, then the devil will use it to get you ALL tangled up!!! 

So, when that evil thought comes to you, you have to squash it like a bug!!!  Because if you don’t, it will take root!!!  It will grow and mature and lead you into sin!!! 

Is it really so easy to fall??? 




Yes!!!  Yes, it is!!!  Sin always comes creeping in, if you leave even the tiniest space!!! 

Sin is like the wind, if you leave any opening, it will come through it!!!  It can be a tiny, tiny crack in the door, or around the window sill.  But if there is an opening, the wind is going to come through that opening!!  Sin behaves the very same way!!   

You have to fill every tiny, tiny crack of your life with Jesus!!!  You can’t leave any cracks or openings!!!  Not in your heart or your mind, BECAUSE IT COULD COST YOU, YOUR SOUL!!!  

Why do I say that sin could cost you, your soul???  SIN IS ADDICTIVE!!!  The Word says that there is pleasure in sin for a season!!  (Hebrews 11:25) 

The temptation to sin is always calling out to us!!! 

Genesis 4:7 (CEB) …sin will be waiting at the door ready to strike! It will entice you, but you must rule over it.”

That is why we would be wise to take heed to the words of this song!!
