Long time ago in Bethlehem

This song, Mary’s Boy Child, sung by Harry Belafonte, is one of the most beautiful songs that I have ever heard.

I was especially intrigued, because I really don’t think that I have ever heard this song before.  And I am sure that if I had I would have remembered it!!!

I must tell you that as I hunted for the lyrics to this song, there seemed to be many versions.  So, since I had NOT previously heard this song, I included the ones that seemed to me to be the most similar to what the songster was singing.  They are not exactly the same, but they are similar.

This song seems so very precious!!!
I love how it tells of the birth of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Long time ago in Bethlehem
So the Holy Bible say,
Mary's Boy Child, Jesus Christ
Was born on Christmas Day.

Hark, now hear the angels sing,
"A New King born today
And man will live for evermore
Because of Christmas Day."

Trumpets sound and angels sing.
Listen what they say.
That man will live for evermore
Because of Christmas Day.

While shepherds watch their flock by night
They see a bright new shining star
And hear a choir sing
The music seemed to come from afar.

Now Joseph and his wife Mary
Come to Bethlehem that night.
They find no place to born the Child
Not a single room was in sight.

Hark, now hear the angels sing,
"A New King born today
And man will live for evermore
Because of Christmas Day."

Trumpets sound and angels sing.
Listen what they say.
That man will live for evermore
Because of Christmas Day.

By and by they find a little nook
In a stable all forlorn,
And in a manger cold and dark
Mary's little boy was born.
